Help Us Celebrate Nebraska Public Transit Week


Below is a list of community activities across Nebraska to enhance the awareness of public transportation.

  • Swag Bag: April 11th – 15th
    • We have put together bags with various items for our current riders and new riders. Items in the bags are coupons for free round trip rides to new riders that current riders can give out. Once those are turned in by the new riders the current riders will get a coupon for a free round trip ride. All coupons turned in go into a drawing for 10 free rides.
  • Ice cream truck: April 11th – 15th
    • All week we will drive around town with the music of an ice cream truck and hand out ice cream! If you hear the music, come and join us.
  • Staff Appreciation meal and entertainment: April 12th
    • From 5-6:30 we will be having an oven fried chicken meal, free and open to the public to introduce and thank our drivers for all they do during the year. We have entertainment that will be playing during this time. Cake and ice cream for dessert.
  • Stuff the bus: April 14th
    • From the hours of 10am to 1pm we will be "stuffing the bus" for the local food pantry in Fullerton. From the hours of 3-6 pm we have the bus in Genoa, NE "stuffing the bus" for the Genoa food pantry.
  • Free Water: April 11th – 15th
    • All week we will be offering free water to our clients that utilize the transit service.
  • Stuff the bus for Aidan's Animals: April 10th – 16th
    • Taking donations of stuffed animal for Aidan's Animals all week. (they provide comfort and hope to children facing tragedy by giving stuffed animals to children thru hospitals and EMS). A pass for a free ride will be given to all that donate.
  • Buy one, Get one free: April 11th
    • Bring a friend with you to our trip to Nebraska City. You friend rides free.
  • Great Handibus ticket search: April 12th
    • Look for free ride tickets at different locations around town-bamks, beauty salons, dr offices, etc. Good for one round trip ticket in city limits. This event is actually going on all week
  • $1 Round trip within city limits: April 13th
    • Everyone gets a round trip ride for $1 today
  • First responders/Veterans Appreciation day: April 14th
    • First Responders/ Veterans can join us for Free pie and coffee at Ramsey Family Fountain downtown Tecumseh from 10am-2pm. Open for ALL First Responders/Veterans-Does not have to be a resident of Johnson County.
  • Passenger Appreciation Day: April 15th
    • Will be handing out cookies to our passengers that day.
  • Veterans Appreciation Day: April 12th
    • Free in County rides to any Veteran on April 12th.
    • Encouraged to come into the Veteran's Office to see what services are offered.
  • Services Awareness Day: April 13th
    • Event held at the Nursing Home for people in need to come in and learn what services are offered to them. This includes: seniors, low income, families, single parents, and disabled individuals. Services present are DHHS, Office of Aging, Garden County Transportation, Oshkosh Housing Authority, VOA & VOA Closet, Experience Works, Superette, Campbell Drug, 2 senior centers, 2 churches, Regional West Clinic & Nursing Home.
  • Stuff the Bus: April 15th
    • We will drive the bus around to all 3 cities in our county to pick up donation item (food, clothing, household goods, small furniture, etc.)
    • We will then deliver the items to the VOA, VOA Closet, and churches in need.
  • Open House: Coffee & Cookies @ the Sr. Center: April 11th
    • Open house cookies and coffee in honor of Nebraska Public Transit Week - open to the public
  • Pack the Van: April 12th
    • Food/Grocery donations will be gathered for the Wayne Food Pantry. Van will be @ Quality Foods between 10:00 am & 2:00 pm. Representative of Wayne Sr. Center will be at the Grocery store also to give out information/pamphlets
  • 1 pass/Free Ride Day: April 13th
    • 1 Free Ride for City Transit Passengers
  • Pack the Van: April 14th
    • Food/Grocery donations will be gathered for the Wayne Food Pantry. City van & representative will be at Pac-n-Save accepting donations. Information and pamphlets will be available.
  • Free Ride to center for dinner: April 15th
    • If you come to the center to join us for our noon meal. Also Food donations will be taken at the center for the Wayne Food Pantry. City van will be on display outside the building.
  • Free Van ticket: April 11th – 15th
    • For every ride you take throughout the week on the Wayne City transit - your name will be put in for a drawing at the end of the week for a 10 punch van ticket.
  • Feature Story in Paper: April 14th
    • Wayne Herald featuring story/picture of Wayne City Van Drivers and the city van in the local paper
  • Open House for Drivers: April 11th
    • Serving Cookies and punch for VCHS employees in honor/recognition of our Public Transit Department
  • Stuff the Bus: April 11th – 15th
    • Collecting non-perishable food items for the Ord Food Pantry. Local rides can ride by giving one canned good for each destination the entire week.
  • Spot the Bus (Facebook Promo): April 11th – 15th
    • Asking the public to take a picture of our vans/bus out in public and post to the VCHS website and they will win a door prize
  • Free radio promo: April 15th
    • Did radio promo on party line part 2 with KNLV (local radio station) promoting the Ne Public Transit week and the activities that are happening the week of 4-11-16. So far it has aired twice if not 3 times.
  • Promoting with candy, brochures, magnets etc.: April 11th – 15th
    • Throughout the week the drivers will visit the local nursing homes, assisted living centers, coffee shops, housing units and drop off magnets, balloons, brochures, etc promoting our Transportation Department and activities.
  • Jackets for the drivers
    • Purchased nice jackets for the drivers that display our logo and their name. Will take picture of the drivers in their jackets next to their vans and post on our website, employee newsletter, and local newspaper with article wrapping up the weeks activities.
  • Stuff the Bus: April 11th – 15th
    • Throughout the week there will be boxes on the bus to collect non-perishable food items for the food pantry. If you donate, you will receive a FREE RIDE coupon to be used at a later date.
  • Public Transit Week Open House: April 11th
    • Join us for refreshments and door prizes at the Perkins County Senior Center, 420 Central Avenue, Grant, Nebraska.
  • Passenger Appreciation Day: April 12th
    • All passengers will receive a special "thank you" gift when they ride with Perkins County Public Transit.
  • Free Ride Day: April 13th
    • All passengers will ride free on the Perkins County Public Transportation bus.
  • Driver Appreciation Day: April 14th
    • Don't forget to thank your driver today.
  • Veteran Appreciation Day: April 15th
    • All Veterans will ride free and receive a special gift.
  • Stuff the Bus: April 10th – 16th
    • Donate any toy to the Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging’s Grandparent Resource Center during the week of April 6-10 and receive 1 (one) free round trip ride.
  • Veteran Recognition: April 10th – 16th
    • Are you a Veteran? We would like to honor you with two (2) free round trip rides during the week of April 10-16, 2016.
  • Buddy Rides: April 10th – 16th
    • During the week of April 10-16, 2016 current passengers are invited to bring along a new passenger "buddy" with them for a free round trip ride.
  • Staff Appreciation Day: April 11th
    • We will thank the drivers publicly. They will each receive a nice looking embroidered polo shirt and be treated to lunch. Media sources will help spotlight our appreciated drivers.
  • Trivia Tuesday: April 12th
    • Passengers will test their public transportation trivia and win coupons for free rides. One rider will win a T-Shirt.
  • Passenger Appreciation Day: April 13th
    • We will thank our passengers and several businesses for their patronage. Everyone will receive bags of popcorn with a thank you note and other goodies including pens, sticky notes, stress balls, magnets, highlighters and a candy treat.
  • Buddy Day: April 14th
    • Its two-for-one ride today. Bring a friend and share the cost of a ride (2 rides for the price of 1).
  • Where’s the Bus?: April 15th
    • Public members are invited to snap a photo of the bus or van in action and share with us for a chance in a drawing for Chamber Bucks. Three winners will be selected for $10 Chamber Bucks, which works like cash at participating Chamber of Commerce businesses.
  • Art Tab with Neligh-Oakdale School Art Class: March 30th
    • During the month of March, students in art classes were invited to create an ad for local businesses. Dial-A-Ride Public Transit participated and an art student drew an ad for Public Transit Week which was featured in the local newspaper on March 30th, to announce the upcoming Transit Week promotion.
  • Open House: April 11th
    • We will host an open house at the Nebraska City Transit Office. We will have light refreshments. We are having a contest to guess how many miles the bus travels during the week. The winner will receive a gift certificate to the local grocery store. The next 7 closest guesses will receive a travel mug. Also, giving away free ride tickets to new riders and 1/2 price rides to current riders.
  • Open House: April 11th
    • We will host an open house at the Fairbury Transit Office. We will have light refreshments, and have drawings for the travel mugs. Also, giving away free ride tickets to new riders and 1/2 price rides to current riders.
  • Open House: April 12th
    • We will host an open house at the Auburn Transit Office. We will have light refreshments, and have drawings for the travel mugs. Also, giving away free ride tickets to new riders and 1/2 price rides to current riders.

    • We will host an open house at the Beatrice Transit Office. We will have light refreshments, and have drawings for a gift certificate and the travel mugs. Also, giving away free ride tickets to new riders and 1/2 price rides to current riders.

    • We will host an open house at the Wymore Transit Office. We will have light refreshments, and have drawings for the travel mugs. Also, giving away free ride tickets to new riders and 1/2 price rides to current riders.

    • We will host an open house at the Hebron Transit Office. We will have light refreshments, and have drawings for the travel mugs. Also, giving away free ride tickets to new riders and 1/2 price rides to current riders.

    • Anyone that rides on our system will ride free.
  • Passenger Appreciation Day: April 13th
    • Everyone that rides our system will receive a small gift bag with 4 candy kisses and a tag that says "You Are Appreciated" and a tube of chap stick that has "Scotts Bluff County Public Transit" and our phone number on it.
  • Reduced Fares Day: April 14th
    • We will be handing our "Free Ride Tickets" to every 4th passenger to use by the end of April.
  • Driver's Appreciation Day: April 15th
    • We will meet the driver's at the bus barn before they start driving and give them donuts and coffee/juice along with a note of appreciation.
  • Daily drawings and give aways: April 11th – 15th
    • During the week we will be giving small gifts out to anyone that rides our system.
    • Monday: Travel mugs. Tuesday: pens & note pads. Wednesday: Candy kisses & chapstick. Thursday: Key chains. Friday: tape measure w/light. In addition every rider can sign up for drawings that we will have daily. The prizes are donated by local businesses.
  • Spin the Wheel: April 11th
    • Got a spindle from a board game with # 1-6 Spin the Wheel when you board, win that many rides for the week.
  • Put The Fire Out: April 12th
    • Cost of each boarding is a bottle of water, donated to the Crawford Fire Department
  • Spot the Balloon: April 13th
    • I'm hanging balloon in business around town. While riding if they spot one they get a prize
  • Staff Appreciation Day: April 14th
    • Presenting staff with t shirts and flowers
  • Customer Appreciation: April 15th
    • Serving cookies and coffee at the work place. Doing a poster for everyone to sign.
  • Drawing: April 1th – 15th
    • Put your name in for a $10 ticket. Will be drawn at the end of the week.
  • Advertising: April 6th – 15th
    • Newspaper ads in two local papers, invitations have been sent to regular van & meal delivery clients and service vendors, posters hung in all businesses in town. yard posters will be put out on Friday.
  • Open House: April 13th
    • Meet the staff, check out the vans, refreshments offered, giveaways and door prizes
  • Drawing: April 11th – 15th
    • All riders during the week will be entered into a drawing for 5 free rides. They will also receive a pen and note pad.
  • Customer Appreciation: April 11th – 15th
    • Each day of the week, we will draw one name for a free round trip ticket. All daily winners will be put in for a second drawing for a $20 ride ticket. Top 5 riders for the week will receive a carnation and our top first quarter rider will be awarded 6 carnations.
  • Stuff the Bus: April 11th – 16th
    • WE have posted flyers around town asking people to donate pet supple for the local City Animal Shelter.
  • VIP Buttons: April 11th
    • We have been talking pictures of our passengers and they will get a button delivered to them this weekend. If they wear their button next week them will get a free ride coupon.
  • Facebook Giveaways: April 11th – 16th
    • WE will be drawing for free Mugs.
  • Driver Appreciation Day: April 13th
    • Employees only. Lunch and dinner for the drivers.
  • Free Ride Week: April 11th – 15th
    • We will be giving "Free Ride" Tickets to any rider who schedules a trip during Public Transit Week.
  • Token of Appreciation: April 11th – 15th
    • All clients, who ride during the week of Public Transit Week, will receive a small gift of appreciation (ex. coffee mug, magnet, candy, etc.). We will give these gifts to riders throughout the whole week.
  • Promo Items: April 11th – 16th
    • We will be distributing free public transit week promotional items to passengers.
  • Discounted rides: April 13th
    • We will provide rides for $2.00 (that's a .50 discount).

  • Nebraska Panhandle Meet & Greet Tour: April 13th – 15th
    • Meet & Greet Tour of Nebraska Panhandle Communities: Panhandle Trails will kick off Nebraska Public Transit Week by conducting a meet and greet tour of Nebraska Panhandle communities in which they will frequent. We will be conducting photo ops, public education and outreach, promoting statewide public transportation efforts throughout the region and giving away lots of goodies.
  • Trailblazer Photo Contest on Facebook: April 13th – 30th
    • A “Have You Seen It?” photo contest, in which Panhandle Trails will encourage participants to look for and post photos of their new bus on the Panhandle Trails Facebook page. Facebook participants will be able to vote and prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. The winners will be announced in May.
  • Panhandle Trails Opens for Business: April 18th
    • Panhandle Trails Intercity Public Transit begins operations in the Nebraska Panhandle.
  • Boarding Passes 50% Discount: April 25th – 28th
    • All boarding passes will be discounted 50% for services from April 25th - 28th. Reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance. For more information, contact Panhandle Trails at 761-8747(TRIP) beginning April 18th.
  • Veterans Appreciation: April 11th – 15th
    • Free rides for Veterans, Spouses, and Widows all week.
  • Find the Stickers: April 11th – 15th
    • Only for kids that ride the bus. Whoever finds the most stickers wins a prize. 1st and 2nd place prizes.
  • Stuff the Bus: April 11th – 15th
    • Collecting food for local food pantry.
  • Dump the Pump: April 13th
    • Passengers ride for free.
  • We will be offering riders surprise free-fare promotions throughout the week.
  • Customers will be given the opportunity to write a thank you card to a driver.
  • “Stuff the Bus to End Hunger”: Saturday, April 16th from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm at Bakers on 120th & Center, with all proceeds going to the Food Bank for the Heartland. Donors will receive a free bus ticket.
  • Advertising: April 12th
    • Take a picture for local paper and advertisement through the City of Alliance on facebook.
  • Luncheon for Drivers: April 14th
    • Noon luncheon for transit drivers.
  • Advertising: April 15th
    • Advertising in the City of Alliance Activity Report for the week.
  • Public Transit Proclamation Signing: April 5th
    • The Seward County Board of Commissioners signed a proclamation certifying April 10th-16th as Public Transit Week in Seward County. Transit Employees were all in attendance and updated the Commissioners on the Seward County Public Transit program prior to the signing and picture.
  • Seward County Health Fair - Kick Off Event: April 6th
    • Seward County Public Transit used the Seward County Health Fair as the kickoff event to begin Public Transit Week. Free Tickets to be used during Public Transit Week were distributed during the event along with informational brochures and “freebies” to encourage individuals to catch a ride with Seward County Public Transit.
  • Rider Appreciation Day & Popcorn Distribution: April 11th – 12th
    • Seward County Public Transit gave away goodie bags and informational brochures to riders throughout the day as a way to say thank you to our riders. On Tuesday, Seward County Public Transit will be distributing over 250 bags of popcorn with Transit information and brochures to all the local housing units and independent/assisted living facilities in Seward County.
  • Transit Week Burger Feed – Milford: April 12th
    • Seward County Public Transit will be hosting a burger feed in cooperation with the Milford Senior Center during the noon meal. Seward County Public Transit will be providing the hamburgers for the event and will have an opportunity to provide the afternoon program and presentation.
  • Root Beer Floats & Seward Tour w/ Treats: April 14th
    • Seward County Public Transit will be hosting a post meal root beer float social at the Seward Senior Center and will be presenting the afternoon program for the Sr. Center. Seward County Public Transit will also be providing a tour of Seward/Seward County for individuals who are in the local nursing homes and providing special treats for the afternoon rides.
  • Hamburger Feed on Friday (Stuff the Bus): April 15th
    • Seward County Public Transit will be hosting a Stuff the Bus event at Pac-N-Save along with a burger feed during the noon hour on Friday April 15th. Individuals are encouraged to Stuff the Bus to benefit the local Community Action Food Pantry and electronic signs have advertisements for the Public Transit Week and Stuff the Bus events all throughout town.
  • Library Week Celebration (Seward Library) and Sunday Ice Cream Social (Utica Senior Center): April 16th – 17th
    • Seward County Public Transit will be hosting a booth with face painting and balloons at the Seward Memorial Library during their Library Week festivities to be held on Saturday. Three Concordia Students will be providing face painting during the event and treats and balloons will be handed out along with a summer rider brochure. On Sunday, Seward County Public Transit will be assisting with the Utica Sr. Center's Sundaes on Sunday and will be providing the Ice Cream for the event. We will also be providing the program after the dinner and dessert.
  • Buddy Day: April 11th
    • Pay Cash or Use Your Pass – Two Ride for One Fare (includes Handi-Van)
  • Bike and Bus for Free!: April 12th
  • Seniors Ride Free: April 13th
    • Includes Handi-Van
  • Patron Appreciation Day: April 14th
    • Staff will hand out treats to patrons to show our appreciation for their patronage
  • Be a Car Free Person: April 15th
    • Throw in the Key & Ride for FREE (regular routes only)
  • Stuff the Bus: April 16th – 17th
    • Also on Saturday & Sunday, April 16 & 17, we will be co-sponsoring with Digity Radio, Sam’s Clubs and Walmart’s in Lincoln, our 17th Annual “Stuff the Bus” event. We want to stuff all the buses full of new items needed by Friendship Home, which provides 24-hour emergency shelter for women and children experiencing domestic violence.
    • On Friday, April 15th we kickoff this event with our Supermarket Sweep.
    • On Saturday, April 16th, we also operate our Big Red Express for the UNL Red/White Spring Game from two lots – North Star High School and SouthPointe Pavilions, to and from the game.
