In the last year, North Fork Area Transit announced their rebranding, revealed their new logo and buses, and worked with community members to develop flexible fixed routes as the next step, adding this new service called Forklift to their already existing demand response service Telelift. And on April 20, as part of their Nebraska Public Transit Week celebrations, North Fork Area Transit will officially kick off the Forklift flexroute services.
Passengers will have access to Flexroutes 1 and 2 in Norfolk with a bus arriving at each stop approximately every 30 minutes. Riders can track the buses using the Passio GO! app on their mobile devices to see how far away the next bus might be. Riders can use Forklift for free through April 30. Forklift will start off running Monday-Friday, 6:30 A.M. to 6:30 P.M. with weekend services added in Fall 2022.
In addition to the scheduled stops, riders may call at least two hours in advance to request a curbside service. Curbside services must be within three-quarter miles from a marked Forklift stop. These will be available on a first come, first served basis to riders.
In recent weeks the North Fork team has been installing flags to designate the stops along the Forklift routes. They’ve also gone through intense driver training to ensure the bus drivers are prepared to provide the best service possible to the new riders.
North Fork Area Transit will celebrate the launch of Forklift on April 20 at 222 N. 4th St. in Norfolk.
