While we can't be there in person this year, Governor Pete Ricketts signed a proclamation declaring April 11-17 as Nebraska Public Transit Week. Show your support for a service that helps thousands of Nebraskans stay mobile and access critical services like education, employment, and medical care.

  • We will be handing out leftover Public Transit Week bags with tumblers, masks, and pens.

  • All Week – Passenger Appreciation: We will be handing miscellaneous items out to passengers all week.
  • Tuesday – Celebrating our 7th year of Nebraska Public Transit Week - the 7th person to ride the bus, gets a FREE 10-punch ticket.
  • Wednesday – Hat Day: Wear your favorite hat today and get a FREE round trip ride. The person with the most unique hat will get a FREE bus ticket (10 punches) and their picture on Facebook.
  • Thursday – Celebrating our 7th year of Nebraska Public Transit Week - the 7th person to ride the bus (not including school kids this time), gets a FREE 10-punch ticket.
  • Friday – Coloring contest winner announced. Coloring contest pictures were handed out to preschool/kindergarten students from JCC (Cook and Tecumseh), St. Andrew's Catholic School and St. John's Lutheran Preschool. On Monday I will share all the coloring contest entries that I get back from the schools on Facebook. You can vote in person at City Hall or on Facebook simply by liking your favorite picture or do both! The top two pictures with the most likes (from Facebook and in-person voting) will be the winners. Like and follow City of Tecumseh /Johnson County Public Transit Facebook page for more information and upcoming events. The pictures of the winners will be on Facebook and sent to NDOT.
  • All Week – Penny Wars Contest: Employees will be divided into two teams and will compete to see which team can collect the most pennies in their respective jar. Proceeds will be donated to a local organization to be named later.
  • Monday – Rider Bingo: All passengers who return the Bingo card with their name and phone number will be entered in a drawing for one of three free 10-ride tickets. Drawing will be held Friday.
  • Tuesday – Public Awareness Day: We will be visiting various organizations and businesses around town to hand out flyers and explain how transit can benefit them.
  • Wednesday – Passenger Appreciation Day: All passengers riding public transit will receive a free gift.
  • Thursday – Food for Free Rides: Any passenger donating an unexpired non-perishable food item will be given one free boarding.
  • Friday – Employee Appreciation Day: Lunch and a free gift will be provided to all transit employees. We will also draw for the winners of the Bingo game.
  • Monday – Customer Appreciation Day: Give out special goodies.
  • Tuesday – Community Awareness: Promotional items will be distributed to doctor offices, hospitals, schools, and nursing homes.
  • Wednesday – The cost of rides is a canned good to be donated to the local food pantry.
  • Thursday – Spot The Bus: Take a picture of one of the buses in town and post on our Facebook page to win.
  • Friday – Employee Appreciation Day

We will be promoting safety and our essential workers during Nebraska Public Transit Week 2021:

  • Free rides for Coronavirus vaccinations during the month of April.
  • April 2021: Promoting and participating in the Nebraska Department of Transportation's "Buckle Up Phone Down Challenge". Panhandle Trails will be assisting in spreading the word throughout our communities that buckling up and putting your phone down are two of the most impactful actions any driver can take to prevent crashes and reduce injury if one occurs. It protects our employees, communities, families, and friends. We encourage everyone to take the "Buckle Up Phone Down Challenge".
  • Employee appreciation during Nebraska Public Transit Week 2021.
  • Monday – Tour the Bus: The bus will be visiting Elsie from 9:30-11 a.m. We will be bringing giveaways, giving free rides around town, and answering any questions you might have.
  • Tuesday – Driver Appreciation Day: Please thank your driver today.
  • Wednesday – Tour the Bus: The bus will be visiting Venango from 9:30-11 a.m. We will be bringing giveaways, giving free rides around town, and answering any questions you might have.
  • Thursday – Tour the Bus: The bus will be visiting Madrid from 9:30-11 a.m. We will be bringing giveaways, giving free rides around town, and answering any questions you might have.
  • Friday – Passenger Appreciation Day: All riders will ride for free.
  • Prior to Public Transit Week – Distributing Pledge to Ride Public Transit cards.
  • Monday-Friday – Transit Employee Appreciation: Thanking those essential workers (transit employees) who worked tirelessly through the pandemic to get clients to their appointments.
  • Monday Munchies – We will hand out individually wrapped healthy snacks to all passengers.
  • Tuesday Treats – We will hand out individually wrapped healthy snacks to all passengers.
  • Wet Your Whistle Wednesday – We will hand out bottled water to all passengers.
  • Thirsty Thursday – We will hand out bottled water to all passengers.
  • Fare Free Friday – All passengers ride free for the day.
  • All Week – Driver Appreciation: We will give a variety of mugs, umbrellas, possibly shirts, and recognizing our drivers for safe driving and completed training, etc.
  • Monday – Staff Appreciation Day: We will be celebrating our amazing staff! We want to say THANK YOU to the drivers, dispatchers, and other transit employees who dedicate their jobs to serving our community, especially through this past year!
  • Tuesday – Half-Price Rides: All riders will pay half price for Tuesday's trip to Omaha.
  • Wednesday – Public Transportation Awareness Day: We will be providing information to Saunders county area businesses to spread awareness about public transportation and the services we provide.
  • Thursday – Half-Price Rides: All riders will pay half price for Thursday's trip to Lincoln.
  • Friday – Passenger Appreciation Day: To show how much we appreciate our riders, all rides in Wahoo are free! We will be within Wahoo city limits only. Each rider will also receive a free gift bag.
  • Sunday – Yard signs will be placed in our community and surround communities.
  • Monday – Two passengers ride for the price of one and drivers will be handing out hand sanitizer and lip balm.
  • Tuesday – Transit Tuesday Passenger Appreciation: New riders ride free and each rider gets an “I Love Public Transit” sticker.
  • Wednesday – Scavenger Hunt for staff and prizes.
  • Thursday – Staff Appreciation: Rolls for all staff and distribute notebooks. Staff will wear new shirts.
  • Friday – Cruisin' for Coffee: Local coffee shop will give out free coffee to riders as we drive by.
  • Monday – Passenger Appreciation: Giveaways available for passengers.
  • Tuesday – Veterans Appreciation: Veterans ride free (DD-214, Active/ Veteran/VA ID, Driver’s License/ID with “Veteran” designation required).
  • Wednesday – Buddy Day: Two riders for the price of one, or pay one way for a round trip if alone.
  • Thursday – Driver Appreciation Day
  • Friday – Selfie Day: Passengers are encouraged to take selfies of themselves on our buses or with a driver.
